1953-2023

His family shared the message below with us.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Prof. Dr. Halil Tanyer Eyyuboğlu, an esteemed academic and proud alumnus of Loughborough University. Prof. Eyyuboğlu obtained his Ph.D. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology in 1982, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in electrical and electronics engineering.

Throughout his career, Prof. Eyyuboğlu made significant contributions to the fields of telecommunications, optics, and photonics. His research on the propagation properties of optical beams in turbulent atmospheres was widely recognised, and he published numerous influential papers in esteemed scientific journals. His outstanding contributions to science were further acknowledged in 2022 when he was named among the world's top 2% most influential scientists by Stanford University (Stanford List).

He held various academic positions, including serving as the Head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at Çankırı Karatekin University from 2018 to 2023, before joining Ankara Bilim University in a similar role. His dedication to teaching and research left an indelible mark on his students and colleagues alike.

Beyond academia, Prof. Eyyuboğlu had a deep appreciation for nature and photography, often capturing stunning images of wildlife in his garden in Ankara. He was known not only for his intellectual rigor but also for his kindness, mentorship, and unwavering support for his students and peers.

His passing on 10 September 2023 is a great loss to the academic community and to those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of engineers and researchers.

We invite those who knew him to share their memories and tributes in honor of his remarkable life and contributions. In particular, we would be grateful to hear from his friends from university, his Ph.D. colleagues, and his supervisor, who may have cherished memories to share. Their recollections will be an invaluable legacy for our family—especially for his two daughters, his wife, his two sons-in-law, his four grandchildren—as we remember our father through their perspectives.

Prof. Eyyuboğlu's legacy continues to inspire students and researchers in the fields of telecommunications and photonics.
