He was appointed as Acting Vice Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi on 21 March by the Government of Sindh. Founded as the Prince of Wales Engineering College in 1921, NED is one of the oldest universities in Pakistan. It was upgraded to a university in 1977, expanding across three campuses in Karachi and a constituent college in Mithi.
Noman has taught in leading architecture and planning institutions in Karachi, supervising postgraduate research within these disciplines. He set up the Architecture and Planning Department at the NED University in 2000, currently working as Professor and Dean in the department.
Dr Ahmed has regularly written on issues around development in the sector in leading news outlets in Pakistan, and has published research papers and books on urban and regional planning, urban infrastructure, and developmental challenges facing underprivileged communities in urban areas. He also holds the position of Chair Holder and Network Coordinator of UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Urban Regions at the University.
