Alumnus Sam Cook gets England Test call up

Alumnus Sam Cook made his Test debut for England this month in a match against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.

He took his first international wicket by dismissing Ben Curran, leaving Zimbabwe 31-1 in their first innings. The final score was 565 runs to England who bowled Zimbabwe out for 265. It was a proud debut for Sam and the start of his journey in international cricket.

We recently welcomed the England Men’s Test Cricket team who have been training on campus. We caught up with Sam to hear more about his experience at Loughborough and to find out more about his Test debut. He expresses how proud he was to receive the call that he had been selected for the test squad and how excited he is to represent England.

“The facilities are obviously second to none, the [National Cricket Performance] Centre here is phenomenal, and the sports science and medicine facility here is brilliant as well.”

He credits the University in contributing to his personal development and recommends Loughborough to prospective students, particularly those who aim to compete at a high level in any sport.

“Spent three great years here, at uni, played a lot of cricket out here so I know the place well.

“It’s played a huge role in my life […] I’m extremely grateful for getting the opportunity to go here and everything that it’s done for me as well, it’s been incredible.”
