Background
Lisa gained her PhD from Loughborough University in 2000 (Variable orderings for Binary Decision Diagrams) and became a post-doctoral researcher within the Mathematical Sciences department. She became a member of the academic staff in the Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering department in 2004, was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2010 and then promoted to Chair in Risk and Reliability in 2018.
My main interests lie in reliability of engineering systems, system safety and enhanced service provision.
Current research projects:
- Development and application of Reliability Methods for enhanced reliability performance.
- Automated reliability modelling techniques can provide the capability of more timely reliability assessment in the design stage, current research in this area focusses on automating the development of Petri Net models from industrial representations of the system design.
- Current research on application of methods focusses on improving the reliability performance of PEM fuel cells using the methods of fault trees, bond graphs and petri nets. In addition, enhanced reliability modelling applied to automated guided vehicles is being investigated.
- Fault diagnostics and prognosis.
- The application of traditional reliability methods to aid in the diagnosis of faults and future prognosis of component/system lifetime. Applications formerly to aircraft fuel systems, with current application to fuel cell system health monitoring using model based, data based and knowledge based methods.
- Service provision
- Optimisation of manufacturing processes throughout the lifecycle
- Enhanced emergency service provision through scheduling and dynamic positioning
- Risk assessment improved in the custodial process
- Improving healthcare in the home through embedded technologies
Current research grant responsibilities
Lisa has been awarded research grants and contracts in the following areas:
- Principal Investigator (PI) for EPSRC Project titled: Robust Lifestyle Design and Health Monitoring for Fuel-Cell Extended Performance (RESILIENCE), EP/K02101X/1, £1M. This is a four-year project investigating health monitoring in fuel cell systems, in collaboration with Nottingham University.
- PI for ESRC Project titled: Demand Modelling and Predictive Police Positioning for Effective Service Provision, ES/K002392/1, £252K. This project is investigating effective use of Officers to maximise availability for crime response.
- Co-Investigator (Co-I) for Project titled: Adaptive Informatics for Intelligent Manufacturing (AI2M), EP/K014137/1, £2M. This EPSRC funded project is investigating holistic lifecycle optimisation within the manufacturing process.
- Co-I for Project titled: CDT - Fuel cells and their fuels: Clean Power for the 21st Century, EP/L015749/1, £4.4M.
- Co-I for Project titled: Towards More Autonomy for Unmanned Vehicles: Situational Awareness and Decision Making under Uncertainty, EP/J011525/1, £1.2M
