The Loughborough University Motorsport team – or Formula Student as it is also known – has recently completed a period of three-day winter testing.

During the first term of the academic year, the team reached a key milestone by completing their first electric car dynamic testing.

Dedicated to their team and development of the car, the students completed their testing during the Christmas break, ready for track testing in 2025. The students said:

“Having achieved a running car post Formula Student UK in Silverstone, with LFS24 we faced the issue of reliably charging and testing. After a few intense weeks of problem fixing on both fronts, we completed three days of testing at the University over Christmas to prepare for track testing in the new year.”

LUMotorsport has been supported with a philanthropic contribution of £5,000 thanks to donations to the Loughborough Fund. The club is an exciting and key part of university life for many students at Loughborough, enabling them to gain hands-on experience ready to take into their future careers.

The team is entirely student led, with support from academic and technical staff only when required. Every year, the team is responsible for producing a new car as well as managing finances, health and safety, and the business side of running a motorsport team.

After about eight months of build and one month of testing, the team compete against other universities in the Formula Student Competition.

LUMotorsport switched to electric in 2020 and following a few years' work and many lessons learnt, in 2024 the team achieved their highest position since the move to electric.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Loughborough Fund, which supports activities such as this.
