Formula Student is Europe's most established educational engineering competition. Run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), it challenges university teams to design, build and race single-seater formula-style cars.
The competition offers a unique opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge to a practical challenge – developing their engineering know-how alongside workplace skills like project management and teamwork.
Accu – a leading supplier of precision engineering components – has announced its continued support for LUMotorsport, reinforcing its commitment to fostering the next generation of engineering talent.
The partnership ensures that the Team has access to essential, industry-leading mechanical parts. By providing these high-precision components, Accu is playing an important role in the development of LUMotorsport’s electric car for the 2025 competition, LSF25.
Matt Ogden, Accu’s Communications and Partnerships Manager, said: "We are very proud to support LUMotorsport in their pursuit of engineering excellence. Our partnership provides the team with the precision components necessary to innovate their car and excel in the Formula Student competition.
“By empowering the next generation of engineers at Loughborough University, they have the opportunity and the tools to develop their skills outside the classroom in an exciting, hands-on way – which will massively benefit the industry for years to come."
The team have utilised components provided in various aspects across the LFS25 package, particularly Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) fasteners – selected for their electrically insulating properties, mechanical strength and chemical resistance at high temperatures. They will be used in various applications from PCB mounting to mechanical fasteners within the car.
Loughborough’s Formula Student Team has expressed its enormous gratitude for Accu’s support, and Professor Lisa Jackson (Head of the University’s Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering Department) said: “We are delighted that Accu are continuing their support of our Formula Student Team. Their generous provision of high-quality components ensures the performance and reliability of the Team’s vehicle.
“We thank them for their ongoing support not only of LUMotorsport’s participation in the Formula Student competition, but for the longer-term very positive impacts on our students’ studies and future careers.
“All the very best to LUMotorsport as they head into this year’s competition – and enormous thanks to Scot Layton, the Team’s Academic Support, who expertly guides their endeavours.”
The IMechE Formula Student 2025 competition finals will take place at Silverstone, 19-20 July. LUMotorsport will be there, showcasing and racing their LSF25 vehicle – defending their impressive 2024 performance.
