Staff and doctoral researchers: Do you use assistive or accessibility software?

The rollout of the Windows 11 upgrade to staff and doctoral researchers is now underway and is being managed by invitation.

To ensure a smooth upgrade process, IT Services request that you notify them in advance of any accessibility or assistive software you currently use.

By providing this information early, they can conduct the necessary checks and ensure that your transition to Windows 11 is seamless, with all required software ready for access on your upgrade date.

Next steps

Please take action as soon as possible. If you have accessibility or assistive software installed on your device, please contact the project team at assistive.support@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk to provide details about the software.

Following a brief assessment of the software, the team will determine if you need to submit information through the Staff Software Request system. If submission is required, the form will request the following details as below. This information will help the team prepare and deploy the necessary software to the Windows 11 service.

  • Full name of the software you are using - (eg JAWS, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Read&Write)
  • Version number of the software - (eg JAWS 2023, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 15, Read&Write 13)
  • Where the software was sourced from - (eg University Software Centre, purchased by your department or professional service, or if sourced from elsewhere please specify)
  • Any data, settings, or preferences that may need to be manually migrated as part of the upgrade - (If known, please specify in the comments section or please mention if you're unsure)

Once IT Services have confirmed your software is prepared, they will contact you to schedule your upgrade appointment.
