Professor Claire Warden

Professor of Performance and Physical Culture

Areas of expertise

The intersection of sport and arts practice (wrestling, bodybuilding, gym culture, dance); arts policy; venues and events; theatre history; global contemporary performance; and early twentieth-century culture and art.

Profile

Professor Warden’s research interests are eclectic, crossing disciplinary and methodological borders in performance and physical movement.

She co-founded Wrestling Resurgence, an Arts Council-funded project that aims to create theatre-style wrestling shows and promote wellbeing and inclusion. She frequently appears on TV, radio, and podcasts. She also co-hosted the first parliamentary event on professional wrestling in the UK working with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Professional Wrestling. She regularly gives talks and facilitates workshops and events.

She is also an award-winning writer, authoring three books as well as numerous chapters and articles on diverse topics, including translation, bodybuilding, circus, experimental theatre, concussion care, and physical education.
