Profile
Professor Burnett is an internationally-recognised expert who conducts research in collaboration with government, industry and educational institutions to inform the human-centred design of emerging and future technologies.
His current projects are studying how students behave when represented as avatars in fantastical virtual worlds for a whole semester, and the teaching of empathy using Virtual Reality to allow students to understand the challenges others might face in undertaking tasks, eg when colour blind or in a wheelchair. Moreover, projects are considering how diverse users of future Robotaxi type vehicles might respond to different emergency scenarios (eg a collision, sick passenger), without the presence of a driver.
He has presented his work in numerous media outlets, including the Guardian, the BBC and CNN.
