Iain Gowans attends ParalympicsGB Strategy Meeting

In January, Peter Harrison Centre Doctoral Researcher Iain Gowans attended a strategy session of ParalympicsGB’s International Relations Committee, held at their headquarters in London. The purpose of the session was to review and develop the ParalympicsGB’s International Relations strategy. The Committee collectively supports ParalympicsGB by making effective use of partnerships and giving contextual intelligence and advice on current and future international developments and trends.

The membership of the Committee consists of individuals that have an international role within the Paralympic Movement, which includes the Chief Executive and former Paralympic athlete, David Clarke, Director of Communications & Social Impact, Anna Scott–Marshall, International Relations Manager, Jo Calvino, alongside 2 BPA Board members and two International Federation Presidents of Para sports. The Committee is chaired by Pippa Britton, a Paralympian who competed for Great Britain in Archery at the 2008 and 2012 Games and current ParalympicsGB Board member.

Iain joined the Committee shortly after being appointed to the International Paralympic Committee’s Classification Compliance and Oversight Committee.

The session considered the ParalympicsGB’s International Relations strategic priorities and how best to achieve them. The International Relations Strategy aims to leverage ParalympicsGB’s position as a leading National Paralympic Committee to support the global development of Paralympic sport, to help give the movement more depth, and evolve the effective governance of the International Paralympic Committee, International Federations, and other National Paralympic Committees.
