Dr Matt Maley is a leading researcher in environmental ergonomics and physiology, specialising in how extreme conditions affect human health and performance. His work spans heat, cold, and occupational stressors, focusing on real-world applications for military personnel, emergency responders, and vulnerable populations.

Dr Maley has worked as a research fellow on high-impact projects funded by the United States Department of Defence and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. These studies examined physiological responses to heat and other environmental stressors, providing critical insights into safety and performance in demanding professions.

Returning to the UK, Dr Maley joined the University of Portsmouth as a Senior Research Associate, collaborating with the Ministry of Defence to study non-freezing cold injury, an issue affecting military personnel operating in cold and wet environments. He continues his research at Loughborough University, where he investigates the effects of extreme environments on both healthy individuals and at-risk populations.

Dr Maley’s research is shaping strategies to protect and enhance human performance in some of the world’s most challenging conditions.
