Dr Toby Williams

PhD, MEng (Hons) DIS, AMIMechE

  • Lecturer in Mechatronics

Background

Toby is a Lecturer conducting research in mechatronic systems and is a Co-Founder of the Loughborough University Spin-Out company Aftrak. His current research includes the development of a solar powered agricultural system for deep bed tilling in sub-Saharan Africa - Aftrak project.

He previously held a Research Fellow and Research Associate positions at Loughborough University since 2020 over multiple research projects, including the industrialisation of novel fabric dying processes, the analysis of train carriage cleanliness, the system architecture of the wireless charging of electric vehicles, the simulation of and testing of novel detection methods of compartment syndrome in calf muscles, and the development of automated assembly systems for textile manufacturing components.

He completed his PhD in 2022 at Loughborough University in mechatronics in medicine focused on the problem of detecting and locating sub-dural haematomas in human heads using multifrequency electrical impedance tomography.
