Chloe Emery is a doctoral candidate at Loughborough University, where her research explores the use of communities of practice as a professional development strategy for physical education teachers, with a focus on improving girls’ football. Her first doctoral study, which evaluates a trial initiative by the English Football Association, is currently under peer review with the Journal of Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy.
Chloe recently presented findings from her PhD at the international research conference hosted by AIESEP (International Association for Physical Education in Higher Education). She brings over six years of research experience in sport and exercise science, having earned a BSc (2021) and MSc (2022) from the University of Exeter, where she received multiple School and Dean’s commendations for academic excellence.
Her PhD work primarily employs qualitative methodologies, including interviews, focus groups, observations, ethnography, and surveys. Prior to her doctoral studies, Chloe gained experience in experimental research, examining how interventions influence performance, physiology, and mental health.
In addition to her research, Chloe has contributed to higher education through teaching research methods, supporting students in the use of SPSS, and marking undergraduate exams. She is working towards the Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Chloe is passionate about promoting sport equity, advancing social justice, and exploring sport development, technology, high-performance sport, and the physiological and psychological impacts of physical activity. She aims to further her engagement in research and applied work that contributes to these areas.
