Changes to your study method
We recognise that some Doctoral Researchers may wish to change their mode of study during their research degree – moving from full-time study to part-time study or vice versa.
If you are thinking of changing mode of study, please discuss this with your supervisory team in the first instance.
Once you have decided to change mode of study, please email the Doctoral College Office stating
- the mode of study change you require
- the date when you wish the mode of study transfer to take effect
Please note that we advise mode of study transfers are effective from the first day of the month wherever possible to allow a smooth transfer.
Part-time study at Loughborough equates to 0.5FTE – this means that a Doctoral Researcher transferring from full-time to part-time would double the number of months of active study they have left. It is important to note that by transferring from full-time to part-time study, this will not reduce the total value of tuition fees owed to the University.
Transfers in extension period
Students in extension periods cannot transfer mode of study. This is because the standard extension period of 12 months is the same for both full and part-time programmes.
