Description of the works
The refrigerant gas R407C is now being phased out across campus. Plant replacement projects will be taking place selecting new equipment that use lower GWP refrigerants.
The existing AC system serving the first floor offices and meeting space of EIS/LU Performance Centre, is to be replaced with new equipment. New indoor units will be installed to offices UU.1.10-UU.1.17.
A new external condenser unit will also be installed to serve the new system, the new outdoor unit will be craned to the roof level on Wednesday 2 April 2025 (a.m.).
During the lift, pedestrians will need to use the alternative footpaths around Sir John Beckwith Centre to access Sir David Wallace & Clyde Williams Buildings from Towers Way.
The Contractor will need clear access to the offices to carry out work. Removal of desks and PC equipment below the AC unit will be needed for the Contractor to use a mobile scaffold tower for high level access.
There will be a Contractor presence around corridor UU.1.03 and stairwell to roof level, noise is to be expected during the works.
During commissioning, the systems will need to be run in hot and cold settings which will result in an uncomfortable environment.
The work will be carried out by our Mechanical Contractor, William Freer.
Timescale
The project will commence on Monday 31 March 2025 and run for 3 weeks.
Week 1 - Offices UU.1.15 & UU.1.17
Week 2 - Offices UU.1.10 - UU.1.14
Week 3 - BMS connection, pressure testing & commissioning to all rooms.
