Windows 11 users: Notice of Microsoft feature update due in April

Microsoft feature update

Throughout April, IT Services will be rolling out a new Microsoft feature update. Like other Microsoft security updates, this will run in the background with no disruption to your work. However, the system reboot for this feature update may take up to 25 minutes.

The update provides several benefits, including performance enhancements, new functionality, bug fixes, and overall security improvements, all of which enhance the user experience of the Windows operating system.

How does this impact me?

  • Campus network (eduroam) or VPN connection is not required

As long as you're connected to the internet, the update will deploy automatically.

  • Smart update scheduling

The system detects your work patterns and optimises the best time to install updates.

  • Restart required

You will receive a ‘Toast’ notification prompting you to restart your machine. You can either restart immediately or schedule it for a convenient time.

  • Update duration

The restart process may take up to 25 minutes and could involve multiple reboots. We recommend scheduling it during a convenient time, such as a lunch break or at the end of the day, to minimise disruptions.

Ensure your device remains connected to a mains power supply during the upgrade.
