Welcome to Robert Bakewell

Located in the student village, Robert Bakewell hall is only a 5-minute walk from the library, a 5-minute walk from the EHB bar and a 10-minute walk to the Students' Union. The hall is named after Robert Bakewell who was an eighteenth-century agriculturalist from nearby Dishley Grange.

RAG Representative

Noah Darch

Hi, I'm Noah and I am putting myself forward for RAG Rep:

If elected as your RAG Rep, I will dedicate myself to making fundraising more engaging, accessible, and rewarding for everyone. My plans include:

-Organising and running fundraising events which are both fun and productive.

-Helping promote the LSU RAG events to enable Bakewell students to get involved in some amazing experiences.

-Establishing a solid RAG presence and culture within Bakewell, maximising the amount of impact we can have and allowing all students at Bakewell to feel part of the fundraising.

-Representing you at RAG meetings - voicing your ideas, initiatives and allowing you to be part of the fundraising.

With my organisation, enthusiasm, and commitment, I will ensure LSU RAG continues to thrive and increase the impact that the Bakewell community can have.

Nina-Mae Penrose

Hi my name is Nina-Mae Penrose and If I become elected for the RAG position, I would like to make the clear idea of being about the community. RAG is a important part of connecting the hall with the community. If I'm elected, I will ensure that the RAG events are more inclusive, impactful and fun.

Firstly, I would like to make RAG more engaging and inclusive, giving everybody the opportunity to get involved in events regardless of experience and background this will ensure everyone is supported.

Transparency with funds is one of the main goals making sure the money that we make from RAG goes towards matters that are important. I will ensure raising efforts are transparent and provide clear updates.

And lastly, I would like to involve more collaboration and teamwork within RAG. I will work closely with student organizations, societies, and departments to create larger and more exciting events.

Betty Gansallo

Hi my name is Betty and I think I will make a positive impact to Bakewell community being a RAG representative. I enjoy teamwork and being in control of hosting/co-ordinating group activities and fundraising. If you vote for me for RAG, I will encourage a wider participation from students in the social aspect, and make sure everyone has fun most importantly. I will build teams and support those who are interested in fundraising, giving them the right advice and support even if they do feel skeptical, providing sponsorship and support with all the resources I have. I enjoy giving back to others, in my past I have worked in a social enterprise providing for youth, which was such a moving experience working and collaborating with companies! So I have so many ideas I can implement and events I want to bring to Bakewell. Also enforcing polls of what charities YOU want to support which I think will encourage more people to participate in. I am ready to make a meaningful difference as your RAG Representative.

Thank you - Betty

Action Representative

The Action Rep will  inform the Hall of the existence of Action and the opportunities it offers and recruit Action volunteers from within the Hall.

Sekani Reid

Hi, my name is Sekani and I’m applying for Action Rep.

I am applying for action rep to better support and contribute to persons in need. Volunteering allows me to contribute to causes that make a positive impact. It allows me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and gain a greater perspective. Due to my experience volunteering as a tennis coach and a student leader, I have seen how helping can make a large and meaningful impact on the people around you. As an action rep I will continue to volunteer while encouraging others inside of Robert Bakewell to volunteer and contribute to the community.

I have great interest in the volunteer work done at care homes as I have seen the positive impact that just a conversation can have, something we may all take for granted. One reason why I would be great for this role is my eagerness to learn, develop new skills, and help others. I think that these skills will allow me to quickly adapt to the role and overcome any challenges that may come with it. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hasan Hashmi

If successful in this election, I plan to continue to build on the success that we started 12 months ago. It has recently been 1 year since I have been an Action Rep for Bakewell (which I have thoroughly loved!) and I look to continue with this role into the next academic year for the following reasons; I already have vast experience in this role, I have built up key contacts within the Action sector and most importantly, I am a true, avid fan of anything Action related (A Team Projects, organising events etc). An example of this, is that I have been volunteering at the care homes in town weekly whilst progressing through the Action ranks to become the Project Lead of the Nursery on campus; both of which showcasing my dedication to Action as well as my ability in navigating in this section of the LSU. Finally, having already previously organised a food drive last Easter, I strongly believe that this will serve me well when negotiating and managing the committee budget effectively for the benefit of our wonderful Bakewell Community!

Sports Secretary

(2 positions available) The Sports Secretary will promote intramural sport and organise teams for ODEs and weekly league games. They will also manage sales and inventory of IMS kit as well as book sports pitches for training or other events.

Luke Fox

Hi Bakewell, I’m Luke and would love the opportunity to be your Sports Sec.

From IMS tennis to tug of war (we don’t talk about the result) I can bring the competitiveness, get everyone involved and create a stronger community. I think sport is for everyone regardless of previous experience and standard, ignoring the fact we’re at Loughborough!

I’m very organised and you can count on me to get those team sheets out in time. I find playing sport is a great way to get out there and make new friends, especially for that post-match pint. Back home I’ve coached tennis and cricket, which have provided many important skills that I believe will translate well over to the role. There are so many opportunities to get involved in and I know me and many others have found IMS sports to really help our wellbeing and university experience. Sports can be toxic but let’s play our way to a healthier game.

As sports sec I will:

• Make sports a fun experience for everyone

• Promote more social activities for IMS

• Bring the cup back to Bakewell! (hopefully…)

I’d really appreciate your votes, let's make Bakewell an even better hall.

Go Bears!

Jamie Okeeffe

Hi I’m Jamie, I would like to be sports sec to promote IMS sports and help win ODEs, in particular promoting IMS Rugby as there wasn’t a team this year. I also want to be part of a successful sporting year for Bakewell!

Ethan Cook

From being a part of serval different Bakewell IMS teams; football, handball, swimming, netball, table tennis, flag football and many more to come. I have developed that drive and passion for Bakewell to be on top. And I would instill that on everyone around me. Playing and supporting I will always put all my effort into helping a team succeed. That’s why I would create regular questionnaires and polls to find the very best players for each sport. Ultimately, I want to focus on getting people involved more no matter the sport. Through regular contact and notices on social media. With Myself being a decathlete I would always be willing to step into any of the IMS sports and perform for Bakewell to support with all the success we desire!!! Through playing sport all my life and completing coaching courses I would also love to help coach these teams so people can develop their skills to higher level. And as bonus Bakewell winning. I would recruit everyone around me that I know to support Bakewell for example Jamie Okeeffe for a variety.

Welfare and Diversity Representative

The Welfare and Diversity rep will organise relevant welfare related events, promote LSU welfare events, and sign post wellbeing support within the university.

Francesca Day

If I was selected I would make it my priority to foster an environment in Bakewell where everyone feels comfortable, safe and supported. I am approachable and so anyone can come to me with their concerns or if they are in need of any help, and I would make sure that they felt heard and supported. Furthermore, if they are in need of further help I would signpost them to the appropriate resources.

In addition, I am committed to arranging fun and inclusive events as I believe it is so important for people to feel part of the Bakewell community.

I have experience in arranging events, as in college I would arrange events for the younger students, such as quizzes, in order for them to meet each other and make friends.

Furthermore, I would also make certain that any events arranged by the hall are thoughtfully planned so that they are appropriate to ensure that inclusivity is promoted throughout the hall.

My goal is for everyone in Bakewell to feel included and feel part of the amazing community which Bakewell is!

All Robert Bakewell social media channels are student-led through the hall's committee.
