I’m a recent graduate with a passion for sport, specifically motorsport and tennis. I also enjoy electrical engineering, which led me to also joining the university’s motorsport team.
I initially joined the tennis coaching team in my first year and met an amazing group of people who pointed out the CVA portal and that there were Activator opportunities on there. I went to apply and saw the other amazing roles – such as the marketing and events roles, which I had a passion for and wanted to gain experience in, so I applied. From there, I continued in my roles until graduation because the people and the roles were amazing.
I know I’ve already mostly answered this but in my first year it was Tennis coaching (where I gained my level 2 with the CVA), year 2 was MMC Officer, Tennis Activator and Rec Exec Events Coordinator. Then my final year I was Tennis Coach Co-ordinator and Rec Exec Events Co-ordinator.
I’ve loved every second of volunteering with the CVA, the opportunities to apply and develop my knowledge and skills in a work environment has proved invaluable to me. The workshops and trust from the CVA enabled me to gain
Real world experience that isn’t available at other universities. The professional development has been amazing, but I think the greatest impact for me personally is that it enhanced my university experience and allowed me to meet the best people who all shared in my passions, challenged me and will certainly be my friends for a long time.
It has helped me a lot professionally. I was able to gain real world experience that I could talk about in job interviews and just makes me feel more secure in performing in my roles. The personal development was challenging but really profound – I learned how to better communicate with people with different communication styles, passions and outlooks which I hadn’t fully considered prior. I’m still improving with this, but it really broadened my perspectives.
.
Honestly, just do it. It’s so rewarding, and you’ll meet the best people. You’ll only learn what you’re truly passionate about by trying things and you’ll get so much out of it – even if you realise it’s not your passion area. It will help you stand out at interviews and just make you a more rounded person overall.
The people, how they challenged, celebrated and supported me throughout my years at Loughborough. We’re all a family here and anyone’s always willing to help!
