I received support with my studies as well as pastoral support. Whenever I had questions about assignments, the lecturers were always more than happy to help.
Why did you choose to study your programme at Loughborough University?
The quality of the course and the reputation of the University.
Why did you choose to continue onto further study?
To change my topic of qualification. My undergraduate degree was in Zoology at The University of Edinburgh. Although I loved the subject, I couldn't see myself working in that area. Business Psychology appealed to me as it sounded like a good mixture of learning about good practice for running and understanding business, but also being person-centred.
What were you doing before starting the programme?
I travelled in New Zealand for six months and then worked in sales for a further six months.
What did you love most about your course?
The course, everyone on it, and the lecturers themselves (especially Dr Iain Coyne). They treated us like colleagues more than students. There was no feeling of them and us – they just tried to support us to learn as best they could.
My favourite module in particular was Wellbeing at Work. It opened my eyes to the understanding that having healthy and productive employees are one and the same, rather than the common misconception that you have to work people into the ground to get the best performance.
What kind of support did you receive?
I received support with my studies as well as pastoral support. Whenever I had questions about assignments, the lecturers were always more than happy to help. After Christmas, I was struggling with some personal issues, and my tutor and programme leader helped me both personally, but also with reasonable adjustments for the course.
What was a typical day like for you as a student at Loughborough?
I lived off campus so a typical day for me involved walking on-site to lectures or the Library. This was usually with friends as I also lived with someone on the same course, or met up with other friends there. When I wasn't studying, there were plenty of social plans with other postgraduate students.
How did you find the social atmosphere/postgraduate community on campus?
We had a great group on our cohort and we did a lot of stuff socially together, such as going into town for food and drinks.
How did your time at Loughborough develop your employability?
It allowed me to be skilled in a really employable area.
What has been your career journey after your MSc?
All of my roles have been in workplace wellbeing – including Staff Wellbeing Officer at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, Healthy Workplaces Lead at Leicestershire Public Health, and now Head of Wellbeing Strategy at SuperWellness.
What would you say to someone considering studying at Loughborough?
Go for it! You won't regret it.
What was your favourite thing about being a Loughborough student?
The sense of community on the course.
