Why did you choose to continue onto further study?
Continuing my study enabled me to learn more about the area and improve my own expertise in the area. It also enabled me to be more competitive in my future job search.
What were you doing before starting the programme?
I did some part-time work, tried different careers and developed different skills.
What did you love most about your course?
In my course, the lecturers would explain the applied techniques to us in a fun way, for example, in the Information Architecture class we were asked to create the menu options for a pizzeria, and in the Ethics and Trust Economics class we went through a group game to help us understand it better. The lecturers use real-world case studies from global companies that we know to give us examples and discussions to help us better understand and think deeply about the issues.
Each subject I enjoyed because the lecturers in their own way made us interested in the subject and the desire to do in-depth research.
What was a typical day like?
Courses for our majors are typically six to eight hours a day, so we would arrive at the School each day before class to wait for the lecturer and presumably go through the handouts and documents posted by the instructor for the day. We would chat with the instructor, classmates or discuss class questions during class breaks. During lunch breaks, we would sometimes take a break in the classroom or have lunch with our classmates in the School cafeteria. At the end of the day, we would choose to play sports in the school gym or go home to read articles, films and books recommended by our tutors and review the day's content.
What kind of support did you receive from the department and/or the University?
I received support with scholarships, the Alumni Association, access to sports venues and help with graduation career options.
How did you find the social atmosphere/postgraduate community on campus?
The professors, students and staff are all very friendly, and I have gained invaluable friendships with fellow students during my year of specialisation.
How did your time at Loughborough develop your employability?
I have learnt a lot of specialised knowledge and skills during the course and the lecturers provided us with recommended books and articles to learn more about the skills. The lecturers would also recommend websites for us to further improve our skills.
What are you doing now?
I am currently looking at options for a higher degree (PhD). I would like to stay on at Loughborough University for this, and in the future I hope to be more highly skilled and suitable for a job in computing.
