Izzie Wright

Course
Criminology and Sociology BSc
Subject area
Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy

I decided to go to Loughborough originally due to the high reputation it holds. However, when I came to visit Loughborough, I realised it was so much more! I loved the campus and the sense of the saying ‘lboro bubble’.

The best thing about my course is that it is a joint honours, therefore it is the best of both in my eyes, I love how I get a balance of modules between criminology and sociology so there is a wide variety.

Over the three years I have been a Loughborough student I have received great support from lectures and also during covid the online lectures were very well thought of also. I like the lecture rooms and always enjoy grabbing a coffee in the breaks.

My favourite module was called crime and welfare this was a second-year module that explored local charities and their purpose – we had a guest speaker every week and this led to me gaining a placement after securing an interview with one of the charities.

I have received specific support from my personal tutor via email and in person when I was either finding a module difficult or struggling with coursework. This led me to feel more confident as a result.

I have just completed a 12-month placement at Living Without Abuse, a local charity. In this placement I was an outreach worker supporting victims of domestic abuse. When I graduate, I hope to secure a job at my placement company, this would allow me to use my degree further and support vulnerable individuals that need it.

The social atmosphere at uni has been brilliant, the union building is a great affordable night out with good music and town also has many clubs. I’m also part of the dance club and this has been really good to make friends.

I’m very proud to be a Loughborough student and doing well in my A levels to get here. The university is a very great place to live and work. Loughborough has inspired me to be confident, do well and go for what you want. I have met some great friends and also great lecturers.
