Before applying to Loughborough University, I was in school in Bangalore, India, studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. My original plan was to pursue my chosen course at one of my original university choices.
I first heard about Loughborough University via the UCAS Clearing website. I chose to apply to the University through Clearing due to the amazing rankings, fantastic campus, plethora of sports facilities, and highly rated business school. Plus, Loughborough is the UK’s premier university for sport which really appealed to me.
During the Clearing process I used several sources to do my research, including the UCAS website, searches on Google and YouTube, and guidance from an international study counsellor.
It was very easy to find my course at Loughborough University through Clearing and call the respective phone number to apply. The University provided me with all the details necessary to proceed by phone and email. It was all very straightforward.
On my course, I enjoy working with a variety of people and learning together.
There is a lot of support in all areas imaginable, including maths, English, mental health, physical health etc. And the facilities on campus cover everything a student might need from any sport, to study rooms and even garden seating. I have really enjoyed playing table tennis in the informal turn up and play sessions, which led me to take up the role of social sport table tennis coordinator. This allowed me to meet a lot of new people who shared the same passion I did.
I am planning to undertake a placement year as part of my course. The skills for study and employment module guided me in writing a CV and assisted me with the required skills in the real world.
In the future, I believe my degree will allow me to apply for jobs in the financial, banking, and consulting industries.
My advice to someone considering applying to Loughborough through Clearing would be to take your time and do not rush the application, as every Clearing student is guaranteed accommodation at Loughborough*.
For those concerned about entry requirements, do not worry, as when I applied for my course, Loughborough did not require either maths or economics at high school level. Lecturers consider this by teaching every single concept from the very beginning, to ensure every student understands.
Do not stress or rush anything; instead use the UCAS Clearing website to understand all of your options. Also do some research about the many sports and societies you can be part of.
I would truly recommend applying to Loughborough as it is an amazing place, and perfect if you want to pursue sport at any level – from casual beginner to Olympic level.
